Buyer guide · Updated 9 October 2026
Quick answer: Start with the workflows and storage your team actually needs. Starter may suit a smaller storage requirement; Standard merits consideration when the additional capacity and functions solve a real need. Compare the local checkout price and billing commitment, rather than a temporary introductory number.
Compare requirements before buying seats
| Parameter | Business Starter | Business Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Published pooled storage per user | 30 GB | 2 TB |
| Primary decision | Does the edition cover the team’s required workflow? | Do the extra capacity and functions justify the incremental cost? |
| Billing check | Flexible versus annual/fixed-term commitment | Flexible versus annual/fixed-term commitment |
| Price check | Local currency, taxes, intro period and renewal | Local currency, taxes, intro period and renewal |
Google’s pricing and edition pages distinguish these storage levels. The exact local pricing, promotions and payment commitments can change. Do not convert an advertised US dollar price into an Indian offer and assume it is the final tax-inclusive checkout price.
Count the real cost over a year
Illustration only: a team has five paid seats at a hypothetical ₹500 per seat monthly. Cost is ₹2,500 monthly or ₹30,000 across twelve months, before taxes or add-ons. If a promotion halves the price for three months, those three months cost ₹3,750 and the remaining nine cost ₹22,500, giving ₹26,250 for the first year. The second year at standard pricing is still ₹30,000. These figures explain budgeting and are not Google’s current prices.
Plan for storage and ownership
Estimate email, documents and media growth rather than using today’s empty account as the baseline. Decide who administers the organization, who owns shared files and how accounts are handled when a colleague leaves. Business subscriptions need an operational owner; a discounted seat price does not replace access management.
- List users who genuinely need a paid account.
- Check required meeting, collaboration and administrative functions by edition.
- Estimate storage growth and data-migration effort.
- Record renewal prices, commitment and cancellation rules.
- Confirm domain ownership and the administrator recovery process.
- Budget for any separate domain, migration or specialist software costs.
When more features do not mean more value
A team that never uses an additional feature gains little from paying for it. Conversely, choosing a cheaper edition that forces separate subscriptions or frequent manual work can cost more overall. Compare the complete workflow and switching effort, including where existing files and email are stored.
Questions answered
Is a monthly payment always a monthly commitment?
No. Annual or fixed-term plans can also be billed monthly. Read the commitment and cancellation conditions.
Should I buy extra seats for future hires?
Check how the chosen plan handles adding or removing users. Avoid paying for capacity without understanding those terms.
Is the introductory price the renewal price?
Not necessarily. Compare the standard rate and the duration and eligibility of any promotion.
