HDFC vs Axis Personal Loan: Compare APR, Fees and Net Disbursal

India · Finance guide · Updated 9 October 2026

Quick answer: Compare the two written offers for the same amount and tenure. The lower advertised starting rate does not decide the winner. Net disbursal, fees, APR, repayment dates and early-closure conditions can change the total cost.

The HDFC page also displays a historical sanctioned-loan rate range for January–March 2025. It should not be presented as your current guaranteed October 2026 rate. Axis’s actual processing charge must be taken from your quote; the FAQ’s typical range is not a promise that every applicant pays the same amount.

Why loan size changes the fee comparison

A percentage fee grows with the principal. A capped rupee fee behaves differently. Illustration only: on a ₹2 lakh loan, a 2% processing charge is ₹4,000; with assumed 18% GST it becomes ₹4,720. A ₹6,500 charge with the same tax assumption is ₹7,670. At ₹5 lakh, 2% plus that tax is ₹11,800. These examples do not assert that either bank will charge you the maximum; they show why the exact loan amount matters.

If fees are deducted before disbursal, the borrower receives less than the sanctioned amount but may repay instalments calculated on the sanctioned principal. Write both numbers down. A loan that approves ₹2 lakh but transfers ₹1,92,330 is different from one that transfers ₹1,95,280, even if both headline EMIs look close.

Use one comparison worksheet

  • Sanctioned principal and actual amount transferred.
  • Interest type and personalised APR in the offer.
  • EMI amount, first due date, number of instalments and total scheduled repayment.
  • Processing fee, taxes, stamp duty and any accepted add-ons.
  • Part-payment and foreclosure rules for that exact fixed or floating product.
  • Payment-return charges, penal charges and complaint contacts.

When two offers have different tenures, request an equivalent-tenure illustration. A lower EMI over five years is not necessarily cheaper than a higher EMI over three years. If you expect to repay early, ask for a written closure illustration at the month you realistically expect, then compare the complete cash outflow.

Questions answered

Which bank approves more easily?

This comparison cannot predict approval. Each lender assesses the applicant and applies its own policies.

Can the salary-account bank be cheaper?

It can offer different terms, but compare the written offer with alternatives. Familiarity alone does not establish lower cost.

Should I choose the lowest EMI?

Use an affordable EMI together with total repayment and net disbursal. The lowest EMI can simply reflect a longer borrowing period.
